Manyas Bird Paradise

Manyas Bird Paradise Overview
This bird sanctuary is situated on a vast area in the northeast of Lake Manyas, near Sığırcık and on the side of the lake. This place, known as “Paradise” in Roman period, was covered with thick forests where thousands of birds lived. It was first introduced to the world by a German, Curt Kosswig and given its present name in 1938. In 1952, a research station was established here by Istanbul University and it became a National Park in 1959.

The exquisite natural beauty of the park and 2 or 3 millions of birds of 258 species prove that Manyas Bird Paradise is a well protected natural heritage site. Thus it has been attracting a lot of tourists recently. There is also a bird museum where stuffed birds of different species can be seen.
