Chora Church Quick Guide

This little museum, that was once a church and subsequently a mosque, is one of Istanbul’s most exciting hidden treasures: inside these unassuming walls lie a beautifully-restored collection of 14th century Byzantine mosaics and frescoes that are unparalleled in the city, and even in the world. The images, which were covered for centuries by wood and plaster when the building functioned as a mosque, move around the walls of the church in several different cycles, ranging from the life of the Virgin, to the infancy of Christ.
