From here you have an unobstructed view of the Golden Horn, the estuary that separates old Byzantine and Ottoman Constantinople from the more modern, European-influenced settlements at Beyoğlu (Bey-oh-lu) and Karaköy. To your right you can see the two-tier the Galata Bridge that spans the Golden Horn. Built in 1994, it’s the last of a series of structures to have spanned the river on this spot. Today it is one of the city’s main thoroughfares and plays host to dozens of fishermen who hang their rods over the railings, as well as a number of cafes and restaurants on the bridge’s lower level.
