The Galata House, also known as the Old British Jail, served as a prison from 1904 to 1919, when it was converted into a British Military Police Station during the occupation of Istanbul by Allied Forces. Today it is a restaurant owned by local couple Nadire and Mete Göktuğ who serve up Georgian-inspired dishes and often entertain their guests with live music and tours of the building which still harbours some markings of the old jail.
