Pierre Loti Cafe

Pierre Loti Cafe Quick Guide

Named after Eyiip’s most passionate foreign devotee, the Pierre Loti cafe sits on the hill at the top of the Eyüp cemetery and boasts an epic view of the Golden Horn all the way to Sultanahmet and the Galata Tower. Pierre Loti was a French naval officer and novelist whose protracted love affair with Istanbul -and an 18-year-old harem girl- was documented in his book Aziyade, published in 1879. Loti would famously come up to this point on a regular basis to smoke a water pipe and admire the view.
