This building is the Süleymaniye Hamam, a bath house that was constructed as part of the Süleymaniye mosque complex in the 1550s. Housed in a building under one large dome and a series of smaller ones, the hamam consists of three rooms: a cold, a warm and a hot room. It is open to the public, and is the only public hamam in Istanbul where men and women can bathe together. Clients are attended to by male tellaks, assistants who scrub the bathers’ bodies with the special cloths or kese. The hamam is mostly visited by tour groups, although couples are also welcome to enter.
