The Golden Horn, Haliç

The Golden Horn, Haliç Quick Guide

From this spot you have a broad view of the Golden Horn. This body of water, often referred to as the world’s greatest natural harbour, is an estuary 7.5 kilometres long that flows into the Bosphorus. It was used by the Byzantines as a naval base and by the Ottomans as a port where trade ships would unload their goods into the copious warehouses that lined the shore. As you walk along the front here, look down into the water and you will see the eroded remains of the ancient port walls.
